Three monks – Sonam Gyewa, Lobsang Samten, and Lobsang Nyima – were arrested Feb 16 from Zilkar monastery in Tridu (Chinese: Chengduo) County of Yushul Prefecture, Qinghai Province, in connection with a recent Tibetan protests in the area. Around 400 monks of Zilkar had on Feb 8 led a protest march to Dzatoe town and the crowd later swelled to more than one thousand, said the exile Tibetan Parliament, Dharamsala, in a statement.
Feb 8 was proclaimed by the exile Tibetan administration as a day of global solidarity vigil for Tibet and observed by Tibetans and Tibet support groups across the free world.
The monks carried banners, written in blue and red inks to symbolize the two protector deities of Tibet; called for the Dalai Lama’s return from exile; release of all Tibetan political prisoners, including the Panchen Lama Gedhun Choekyi Niyma, and respect for Tibetan lives.
