Tibetans in Paris Commemorate 57th Anniversary of 10 March Uprising Day/ENG

PARIS, 10 March: Over 400 Tibetans and supporters gathered today to mark the 57th anniversary of the 10 March 1959 peaceful uprising at the historical Trocadero Square.

Senator Andre Gattolin, Vice President of the Tibet Group in the French Senate addressed the gathering underlining strong support for Tibet in the French parliament.

Mr. Tsering Dhondup, Secretary of the Bureau du Tibet in Paris read out Sikyong’s statement for the occasion.

After the commemoration event, Tibetans and supporters marched up to Chinese embassy, rasing slogans.

The commemoration anniversary was organised jointly by the Tibetan Community in France, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Chushi Gangdruk and Students for a Free Tibet.

Earlier in the morning, the Mayor of the 2nd district of Paris, Mr. Jacques Boutault, raised the Tibetan national flag on the front of the city hall to commemorate the Tibetan national Uprising of 1959.

“The ecologists in France, in Europe and elsewhere stand in solidarity with the Tibetan cause, the protection of their identity and their independence. They also support the propositions of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile, for dialogue and the non-violent resolution if this conflict,” pointed out Mayor Jacques Boutault during the event.

Apart from 2nd District of Paris, the 11th district also raised the Tibetan National flag in front of the city hall. Similar gesture of support have also come from Nancy, Belfort, Valence, Saint Genes Champanelle and Ceyrat. There are over 600 municipalities in France who are part of this Tibetan flag raising campaign.
