DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 17: A day ahead of the seminal meet of the Chinese Communist party’s 19th National Congress in Beijing, a coalition of Tibetan non-governmental organizations has proclaimed that they have “no positive expectation and hope” from China’s incumbent “dictator Xi Jinping”.

Condemning the next five years of Xi’s tenure, the Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibetan Women’s Association, Gu-Chu-Sum Movement Association of Tibet, National Democratic Party of Tibet and Students for a Free Tibet said that the Chinese President has failed to live up to expectation for changes for the better in Tibet and that situation there has gone from “bad to worse”.

“Xi Jinping’s crackdown on corruption in the government and party in his first 5-year-tenure has been seen as an internal power struggle. In Tibet, instead of dealing with problems, the CCP pushed an anti-Dalai Lama campaign and escalated its crackdown,” the coalition said.

The coalition that forms the core of grassroots Tibetan movement in the Tibetan struggle, urged Tibetans and civil society stakeholders to step up their efforts in further condemning the Chinese leadership and their failed policies in Tibet, also vowing to keep their foot on the pedal until the Tibetan issue is resolved.

The Students for a Free Tibet organized a photo-op where activists staged a graphic set, depicting Xi’s bloody five year rule to suffocate dissent, political detentions, religious persecution, silencing international community.

“Despite his concerted efforts to restore his image in the global arena, he (Xi Jinping) will never be seen at par with any global leader with legitimacy as long as situation inside Tibet and China do not change for the better,” Dorjee Tsetan, SFT Executive Director said.

CCP’s 19th Party Congress will begin Wednesday in Beijing. The meeting that is held every five years will primarily set the party’s national policy goals and elect its top leadership.
