DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 31: The United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday lashed out at the ruling communist party of China, saying that its policies are eyed at domination of the world and aggressively counter to the interests of the US.

Pompeo who is a vocal critic of the CCP’s ambitious belt and road initiative said, “They are reaching for and using methods that have created challenges for the United States and for the world and we collectively, all of us, need to confront these challenges ... head on.”

“It is no longer realistic to ignore the fundamental differences between our two systems, and the impact that … the differences in those systems have on American national security,” Pompeo said in an address to a gala dinner in New York of the conservative Hudson Institute think tank.

“The Chinese Communist Party is a Marxist-Leninist Party focused on a ‘struggle’ and international domination - we need only listen to the words of their leaders,” he said, adding that the designs of the ruling party must be confronted. “We didn’t want this. China has forced it upon us,” the US secretary of state said on his administration’s intent to curb Beijing’s expansionist policies.

The remarks come days after another ranking US diplomat, Vice President Mike Pence ramped up the US rhetoric on China by criticizing China’s record on human rights, trade and methods used to expand its global influence in regions it controlled and also in international territories.

The US-China relations have been marred by the on-going trade war between the two largest economies in the world, as US President Trump started by imposing higher tariffs on Chinese goods and China following suit. Trump and Xi are scheduled to hold talks through phone on Friday to discuss the tariff war, after the APEC meet between the two scheduled in Chile was cancelled on Thursday.
