DHARAMSHALA, January 2: Two organizations, Tibetan People’s Movement for Middle Way and Youth for Umaylam will jointly hold what the organizers called the first international conference on Middle Way later this year, aimed at raising awareness amongst Tibetan youth on the Middle Way Approach.

The members of the organization, at a press conference today at the Club House in Mcleod Ganj, announced that the conference would take place in Dharamshala from May 26 to May 31 coinciding with college vacations.

The organizers hope that around 300-400 participants will take part in it.

Expressing grave concern over the lack of proper understanding of the policy, especially amongst Tibetan youth, Tenzin Phuntsok, a member of the organizing committee said, “It is natural that older generation people will perish and the younger generation will have to carry the responsibility. So we hope that over 50 percent participant would be youth, which would be of immense help in terms of carrying the work forward.”

Exiled Tibetan NGOs including Tibetan Women’s Association (TWA) and Tibetan United Association have consented support and active participation in the conference, which will also be participated by few Chinese scholars.

“The solution for Tibet issue should ideally be formulated with discussion between Tibetans and Chinese. Moreover, the approach conceptualized by His Holiness, adopted by the Central Tibetan Administration and supported by numerous nations, especially needs the support from Chinese,” Phunstok said.

He also added that most of the Chinese scholars are those who have fled the Chinese repression and understand the predicament of Tibetans and find the MWA as a viable approach that is mutually beneficial for both the Tibetans and Chinese.
