DHARAMSHALA, October 17:The Tibetan Spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama today arrived in Imphal, capital city of Manipur to a grand reception of state government at the airport.
The Dalai Lama was received by state Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with State Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh and senior government officials at the airport. The reception also included ethnic Manipuri citizens wearing their respective traditional tribal costumes.
Declaring the Tibetan spiritual leader as a state guest, CM Singh’s administration has beefed up the security in the state capital during his three-day stay.
“He will be given all facilities as an honored guest,” he said.
The 82-year-old will be giving a talk at an international conference on Peace and Harmony on October 18 at the Imphal City Convention Center organized by the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Following his arrival at the airport, the Dalai Lama was escorted to Raj Bhavan, the official residence of Manipur’s Governor Najma Heptulla for a luncheon.
This is His Holiness’ second visit to the Northeast part of India this year following his visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in April.
