Tibetan killed at demonstration following self-immolation/ENG

[17 January 2012] UPDATE: The Tibetan who self-immolated and died on 14 January has been named as Lobsang Jamyang. He was 21 years old and had previously been a monk at Aduk monastery in Ngaba.

According to the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) , Lobsang immolated himself adjacent to Kirti monastery in Ngaba. During his protest he shouted slogans which included ''May His Holiness the Dalai Lama live thousands of years''. Lobsang died at the scene and his body was taken away by the police.

Up to 700 Tibetans gathered to protest against the actions of the police. TCHRD report that a Tibetan woman in her 40s died after being hit in the head with iron chains. Previous reports indicated shots had been fired into the crowd. TCHRD also report that at least 10 Tibetans were arrested.
