Special prayer service to mourn self-immolations held in Taiwan/ENG

Taipei: Tibetans and Taiwanese Buddhists organised a special prayer service to express their solidarity with all those Tibetans who have self-immolated in protest against the repression of the Chinese government. The prayer service was organized by former Ganden Jangtse abbot Ven. Khensur Lobsang Tsepal at his Chenrey-sig center in Taoyoun.

A large number of people, including 22 Tibetan monks from different Dharma centers in Taipei, Taoyoun and Taichung, attended the day-long prayer service. Scriptures in both Tibetan and Chinese langauges were recited during the prayer service.

Ven. Lobsang Tsepal informed the gathering about another sad news that he had just received about self-immolations of Losang Tsultrim, 22, monk of Kirti monastery, on 16 March and Sonam Dargye, a 44-year-old farmer on 17 March, calling forfreedom in Tibet and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s return to Tibet.

Khensur Rinpoche also requested the gathering to offer daily prayers for all those Tibetans who have set themselves on fire for the cause of Tibet.

Since 2009, 30 Tibetans have so far set themselves on fire calling for freedom and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to his homeland. 17 of these incidents occurred in this year alone. (Self-Immolations Fact Sheet)
