South Africa
The Office of Tibet in South Africa organised a reception to mark His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 77th birthday. The event was attended by over 70 guests consisting of politicians, academicians, journalists, members of Tibet support groups, representatives of Buddhist centres, Ambassador of Delegation of the European Union, Charge d’Affaires of Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, First Secretary, Taipei Liaison Office, Regional Inspector General of USAID and representative from the German Embassy.

Representative Migyur Dorjee spoke on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s tremendous contributions towards building a peaceful and harmonious world through his life time commitments to promote human values and religious harmony.

Other highlights of the two-day festivities include a music concert by popular South African singer Tu-Nokwe, screening of film on Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s visit to Dharamsala and mass prayer service for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Korea
Hundreds of people, including Koreans from all spectrum of society, joined Tibetans for the celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 77th birthday in Seoul.  
 
Kalon Dicki Chhoyang of the Department of Information and International Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration, who was accompanied by Representative Lhakpa Tshoko, launched a biography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Korean titled ‘Son of Tibet’ authored by Geshe Tenzin Namka, director of Tibet House, Korea and research professor of the Research Center for Tibetan Buddhist Canon of Dongguk University.  

Kalon Dicki Chhoyang briefed the gathering on the Tibetan efforts to resolve the issue of Tibet through dialogue with the Chinese government and the critical situation inside Tibet in view of the spate of self-immolation incidents.

Representative Lhakpa Tshoko thanked the Koreans for their support on the issue of Tibet.

India
The Tibetan community in Paonta Sahib in northern India celebrated the day with the local community led by district authorities. The settlement officer said the district authorities headed by deputy commissioner and senior superintendent of police pledged to provide best possible support for the Tibetan community.
