DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 26: The group of Tibetans who were carrying out a peaceful sit-in protest for the duration of the Tibetan parliament’s on Saturday concluded their protest that called for the impeachment of the incumbent Tibetan President and a serving legislator. The group said they will hold the Dr. Sangay led cabinet and the Tibetan parliament in exile accountable for any future outcomes related to the matter.

Thinley Kelsang, the representative of the group going by the name of “truth seeking volunteers” of over 70 people from various parts of India and US said that the Kashag and the TPiE should bear responsibility of any positive or unfortunate consequences surrounding the issue in the future.

On March 24, 14 members of the Tibetan parliament met with the protestors at the Gankyi basketball court, the venue of the protest and appealed to the protestors to engage lawfully and with the sentiments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in mind. During the course of the last week in the parliamentary session, the issue was discussed by many legislators as well as the Tibetan President.

The same afternoon, an additional secretary of the Kashag Secretariat met with the protestors and invited respresentives of the group to meet with the cabinet members on the condition that the meeting will be held behind doors without media coverage or any recordings of the talks. Thinley Kelsang said that such conditions will serve to create further rift and hence refused to partake in the invitation extended by the Kashag.

The group has alleged that the incumbent President has exercised undue authority in the termination of the then NA rep. Penpa Tsering, and also misled the public over the row surrounding the 1.5 million USD loan from Tibet Fund. They have demanded an independent commission to investigate the matter.

The Tibetan President has said that his decision to terminate former NA envoy was neither unprecedented or illegal. He has said in the parliamentary session last week that the protestors can take him to court if they refute his cabinet’s decision.
