State Chief Minister Assures Support to Kalon Tripa/ENG

DHARAMSHALA: Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay on Sunday met with Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and appealed for support from the state government for Tibetans living in Shimla and Solan.

During the 45-minute meeting in the state capital Shimla, Kalon Tripa thanked Chief Minister Prof Prem Kumar Dhumal for personally making best efforts in withdrawing the name of Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje from the alleged role in currency seizure case.

Kalon Tripa apprised the chief minister about the problems faced by Tibetans living near the Shimla bus stand in terms of their rehabilitation and livelihood. Similar grievances of Tibetans based in other parts of Shimla and Solan were also raised during the meeting. Kalon Tripa appealed to the chief minister to expedite help towards addressing their grievances.

The Chief Minister assured Kalon Tripa that the state government would give the same support to the Tibetan people as it has given for the last 50 years.  

Following his meeting with the Chief Minister, Kalon Tripa addressed the Tibetan community at Yangchen Gatsel Ling settlement located at Kusumpti.

Tibetan Settlement Officer Tsering Tashi read out the annual work report of the settlement.

Kalon Tripa then spoke about the status of the Central Tibetan Administration following the devolution of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s political authority to the elected Tibetan leadership.

Kalon Tripa informed the Tibetan community that the magnanimous decision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to devolve his formal authority was aimed towards the complete democratisation of Tibet polity and making the Tibetan struggle more sustainable.

Kalon Tripa attributed the credit for the smooth functioning of CTA under the present Kashag to the collective responsibility and support of the Tibetan people.

He briefed the Tibetan community about the efforts made by the Kashag based on its three guiding principles of innovation, self-reliance and unity.

Kalon Tripa also apprised them about its efforts to gather support from the international community to restore freedom in Tibet and the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to his homeland as demanded by 35 Tibetans who self-immolated in Tibet. “As free spokespersons, we have disseminating their aspirations worldwide to garner strong support from the international community, including prime minister, former president, world parliamentarians and other political leaders of countries like the US and Japan.  

On 5 and 6 May, Kalon Tripa attended the golden jubilee celebration of the Central School for Tibetans, Shimla.

Kalon Tripa expressed gratitude to all the past and present  Indian and Tibetan teachers for their valuable contribution to the education of Tibetans. He said the Central Tibetan Administration take pride in seeing former students of CST Shimla taking prominent posts in both the exile community and the international arena.
 
Kalon Tripa also delivered a talk on Indo-Tibet relations organised by Bharat Tibbat Sayog Manch at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, and later interacted with media. The talk was attended by prominent dignitaries including Mr Suresh Bhardwaj, MLA Shimla, Mr Tarsim, president of Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch Shimla, scholars and professors from Himachal Pradesh University.
