DHARAMSHALA, May 7: A Tibetan immigrant in New York has won an Emmy award at the New York Emmy Awards on Saturday night.

Kunchok was honoured with the prestigious award for 'Rolando Rights', a film that Kunchok created and produced, for her program at the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs. She won the Emmy under the category of Instructional/Informational Video Production.

Dressed in the traditional Tibetan chuba, Kunchok received the award as the Creator/Supervising Producer of the film.

After her remarks, she celebrated the 3.2 million immigrants who call New York City home, she loudly proclaimed "Bhod Gyalo!" (Victory to Tibet)

In addition to her previous work as Director of the We Speak NYC program at the NYC Mayor's Office, Kunchok is currently a Law student at the University of Virginia and holds a Graduate degree in International Relations from Oxford University.

With experience in program development and management, Kunchok leads NYC's signature ESOL program focused on promoting civic engagement and community building/organizing among immigrant New Yorkers. As the program director, Kunchok works on producing accessible and innovative educational tools for English language learners and teachers.

In 2010, Kunchok co-designed, launched and managed a successful adult education community initiative.

In 2015, she re-launched the program and took the lead on expanding program resources. Under her leadership, the program now coordinates over 200 classes annually across the five boroughs.

Kunchok is a multi faceted project manager with expertise handling complex vendor and community relationships and has interests in creating sustainable institutions and institutional programs.
