Law student from Bangalore wins first Mr Tibet title/ENG

A law student from Bangalore won the first Mr Tibet title before a cheering audience of about a thousand at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in McLeod Ganj on Saturday night.

Tsering Choephel and Lobsang Choephel were declared the first and the second runners-up. A four-member jury decided the winners.

Yak Events, the organiser of the contest, awarded a cash prize of Rs 110,000 (USD 1,700 approx) to Nyima, while Choephel received Rs 70,000 and the other Choephel was given Rs 40,000.

Nyima (who has only one name), 24, is a third-year law student at the CMR School of Legal Studies in Bangalore, India. He is also President of the Global Tibetan Students Union.

Speaking to Tibet Sun, Nyima said, “You have to have dreams, and if you are committed to your goals, and if you have the determination, you can do it.”

He urged the parents and the public to support this event in the future. “It is an important platform for the youth to show their talents and do something for their own country.”

Nyima was born in Tibet, and came to India in 2007. He attended TCV School Suja. He is 6’2″ tall.

With the aims of contributing and making a difference in society, fitness and education are his passion.
