DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 23: A 69-year old Tibetan man who returned to Mcleod Ganj from US has reportedly died at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College Hospital in Tanda, Kangra on Monday. While there is no official confirmation whether he died of COVID-19 virus, VOA citing the District Commissioner Rakesh Prajapati, said preliminary testing came out positive for COVID-19. The deceased, Tenzin Choedhen (Tenzin Chudan) had returned from the US on March 15 to McLeod Ganj from the United States, according to Himachalabhiabhi report.

The report cited daughter of the deceased saying that her father had common cold when he arrived from the US although he underwent screening at the airport in Delhi and had also checked himself at a hospital in Delhi. The deceased was initially admitted to the Balaji Hospital in Kangra following which he was referred to Tanda hospital.

McLeod Ganj Tibetan welfare officer Tenzin Kunga told Phayul that his office is cooperating with the authorities, currently helping them in contact-tracing. Families and people who have come in contact with the deceased may be placed in isolation as per protocol until the result of the test arrives. If the test results confirm him to be positive of the virus, he becomes the first Tibetan on record to die from the COVID-19 in exile.

The Kangra District has reported 2 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 till date with many under observation. India has 433 confirmed cases as on Monday and many states have initiated lock down to contain the outbreak.
