Buddha’s Home Coming”- A global Tibetan exhibition/ENG

BODH GAYA, January 8: To commemorate his four decades of companionship with the Tibetan struggle, a prominent Indian journalist is planning to organise a global photo exhibition on Tibet.

“I have around 15,000 photos on Tibet and Tibetan life. This year, I am planning to travel all over the world and carry my photo exhibition on Tibet,” Vijay Kranti told Phayul.

A long time supporter of the Tibetan cause and friend of Tibet, Kranti said that the exhibition will be titled “Buddha’s Home Coming” in reference to the Dalai Lama for making India his exile home for the last fifty plus years.

“This will be a tribute to His Holiness the Dalai Lama for being in India for last fifty plus years,” said Kranti who is fondly known as Tenzin Gyurmey, a name given by the Dalai Lama for his unchanging stance on the complete independence for Tibet. Gyurmey being the Tibetan word for unchanging.

Having visited Tibet a few times, Kranti said that his photos “speak of the Tibetan life and situation in exile as well as inside Tibet”.

The Indian journalist told Phayul that he first came across Tibetans when he was assigned to file a story on Tibet by a magazine in the early 1970s.

“I first came across Tibet when I visited Dharamshala for a story on Tibet in 1972. Since then, I was hooked up with Tibet and Tibetans,” said the journalist.

Besides telling the story of Tibet through photographs, Kranti has also written a number of articles on Tibet in both English and Hindi. He is currently the Editor of “Tibbat Desh”, a bi-monthly magazine in Hindi on Tibet.

“I have written a lot of articles on Tibet but most of them are in Hindi, so many Tibetans haven’t read them,” Kranti said.

“I have warned the Tibetan Government-in-Exile about the numb response to its proposal of ‘middle way’ and I am planning to publish all the articles combining them into one book.”

When asked about the new Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay, the Indian journalist expressed satisfaction at his expertise and mass appeal.

“I am very happy that Tibetans have got the right Prime Minister at the right time,” said Kranti.

Vijay Kranti will be speaking at a climate conference on Tibet titled, ‘Tibet the Third Pole and its impact on Asia’s future’ at Bodh Gaya on January 9.
