TOKYO: Tibetans, representatives of Uighurs, Southern Mongolia and Japanese supporters participated in a Peace Rally held on the occasion of World Human Rights Day in Japan’s capital Tokyo. Today also marks the 28th Anniversary of the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama.

Carrying flags and banners, they called on the United Nations and the international community to restore freedom and justice for Tibetans, Uighurs and Southern Mongolia.

They urged the Chinese government to end suppression of human rights of Tibetans and restore freedom in Tibet. They also reiterated the international community’s deep concern over the repressive policies of the Chinese government in Tibet, Xinjiang and Southern Mongolia.

Addressing the rally, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Representative Mr Lungtok thanked the freedom and justice loving people, governments, leaders, parliamentarians and organisations across the globe for their unwavering support to restore freedom and justice for Tibetans in Tibet.

The Office of Tibet distributed the statements of the Kashag during the rally.

The peace rally was organized by the Students for a Free Tibet, Japan.

Today’s rally was held against the backdrop of self-immolation protests by over 150 Tibetans inside Tibet, destruction of and eviction of thousands of nuns from the world’s largest Buddhist academy in Larung Gar and Yachen Gar and suppression of freedom of movement and expression across Tibet.
