DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 1: Considered by many as the second leading Tibetan Buddhist leader after the Dalai Lama, the Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee made public his intention to return to India after media reports citing Indian intelligence sources speculated that the young lama is planning to shift base to the United States.
In his interview to the Radio Free Asia's . Tibetan service, Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee said he had no doubts of returning to India admonishing widely circulated speculative reports in the Indian media as well as grapevines in various sections of the society. “I intended to return in June but that did not happen. I will be returning to India by November 2018 to attend a meeting for Tibetan Lamas in Dharamshala, India,” he said.
He said that he intends to return after all the speculations over his stay there is laid to rest and that his aides are in communication with the Indian government to that extend.
The Tibetan Buddhist leader also said that the extended trip was his first vacation after reaching India 18 years ago after a daring escape from Tibet. He said that during the trip, he had the opportunity to seek a comprehensive medical test and experience a respite for his “physical and mental” well-being from his busy schedule.
The Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee who is based in Gyuto Monastery near Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh left for a tour to the United Kingdom, Canada, Germanyand the U.S. in May last year.
