TYC announces 'Chalo Delhi' to mark the 60 years of resistance/ENG

DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 18: Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), the largest pro independence group in exile announced a three-day program in New Delhi to commemorate the 60th Tibetan National Uprising Day on March 10, 2019.

“Tibet is in a critical state and at this moment in history, it is imperative for us to come together united in our stand for our nation and our people. Let us make our voices heard for our brothers and sisters inside Tibet,” said TYC President Tenzing Jigme at a press conference held at the TYC office this morning in Dharamshala.

Jigme announced that TYC will be organizing a rally from Ramlila Maidan to Jantar Mantar on March 10, a peace march from Khan Market to United Nations on March 11 and a candlelight vigil on March 12 in Delhi, packed in a call for action titled “Chalo Delhi.”

All 80 TYC chapters from India, Nepal and Bhutan are participating in the program that could see a turnout of around 1,500 people. Prominent Indian politicians, leaders and supporters are also expected to attend.

Speaking to Phayul, Jigme said Tibetans across the board should collectively put pressure on the Chinese government when it is increasingly being looked upon by many countries of the world as a threat. “India must remember that nothing has changed since the late Defence Minister Sh. George Fernandes had said that China was the potential threat number 1, it still is,” added Jigme.

“Although we should be proud of being able to sustain the movement for 60 years, it is also time to introspect on the movement, our policies and foster unity among ourselves when China is trying to destroy it even in exile,” stated the president.

In this regard, he said the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) should encourage and include people with different opinions and ideologies in discussions.

With Tibetans in Tibet facing severe repression and China all set to mark this historically and politically salient day as the 60th Serf Emancipation Day, TYC urged Tibetans living in India, Nepal and Bhutan to take part in this resistance movement.
