Tibetan artistes to honor Tibetan martyrs!ENG

DHARAMSHALA, December 22: The Alliance for Tibetan Musicians, a group of Tibetan artistes, will be organising a concert during the upcoming Kalachakra teachings at Bodh Gaya in Bihar in honor of the Tibetans who have sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet.

"The wave of self-immolations in Tibet indicate that Tibetans are no longer able to tolerate the repressive Chinese policies, and under such desperate circumstance, the exile Tibetans cannot remain inactive," said Techung, one of the most celebrated Tibetan folk and freedom singers and songwriter.

Since March this year 12 Tibetans have set their bodies on fire demanding the return of the Dalai Lama from exile and protesting China’s continued occupation of Tibet.

Speaking to Phayul, the singer of ground-breaking songs such as “Lok Dro” and “Nyingtob” said that the role of artists in a freedom struggle is vital and should be vibrating at all times.

"Music and singing has played an important role in inspiring, mobilising, and giving voice to freedom struggles and civil rights movements around the world. They give new courage and a sense of unity to the people," said Techung.

The concerts are scheduled for three days every evening from December 31 to January 2 and will feature popular Tibetan singers including Tsering Gyurmey, Tenzin Gyalpo, Tenzin Woser, Choedak, and, Techung among others.

Techung recently touched the hearts of Tibetans all over the world, once again, with his soul stirring song “Lama Kheno” – honoring the self-immolations inside Tibet and urging Tibetans everywhere to be connected with the Tibetans inside Tibet.

"Music and songs bind the Tibetans together and add hope to our determination that we shall overcome, we shall overcome some day," said Techung.
