DHARAMSHALA, June 14: The President of the exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration, Dr. Lobsang Sangay, and a delegation of legislators from the Tibetan Parliament in exile on Tuesday attended the ‘Thank you Canada’ proceedings in the Canadian capital of Ottawa.

“We are here to say that you have been with us for a long time, bear with us for a little longer,” Dr. Sangay told a contingent of Canadian politicians including Melanie Joly, the Canadian Minister of Multiculturalism, MP Arif Virani, Chair of Parliamentary Friends of Tibet (PFT), expressing gratitude for the support shown in the last six decades by Canada.

Other supporters of the Tibetan people such as MP Garnett Genuis, Co-chair of PFT, MP Randall Garrison, Co-chair of PFT, MP David Sweet, former PFT Chair, Former Senator Consiglio DiNino, founder of PFT, MP Alexandre Boulerice, MP Gagan Sikand, MP Raj Saini, MP Rom McKinnon, MP Gary Anandasangaree, MP Robert-Falcon Ouellette and MP Mona Forteir attended the event.

The North America representative Ngodup Dorjee and Tibetan parliamentarians Mingyur Dorjee, Tenpa Yarphel, Pema Chagzoetsang, Dhondup Tashi, Namgyal Dolkar and Tsewang Rigzin also attended the event.

The same day, The Tibetan President addressed before the Canadian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. Sangay said that in contrast to the delegation from the so-called ‘Tibet Autonomous Region’ (TAR), the delegation led by him represents the true aspirations of the Tibetan people.

The CTA run Tibet.net reported that the hearing touched on issues such as the Middle Way policy of CTA, Canada’s support in Tibet, the consequent lack of reciprocity when it comes to access and entry into Tibet for Canadian officials, the case of Tibetan activist Tashi Wangchuk, religious freedom pertaining to particular subjects like the demolition of Larung Gar, the Panchen Lama, and the CCP’s intent to control the reincarnation process in the Tibetan monastic realm.

The President while expressing gratitude to the Canadian government also said that the issue of Tibet is a “litmus test” for Canada as much as it is for China.
