Exile musicians to pay tribute to martyrs/ENG

2011. december 21./Tibet Sun/TibetPress

A group of exile Tibetan musicians and singers have planned a concert during the upcoming Kalachakra teachings at Bodh Gaya to pay tribute to the martyrs of Tibet.

In a press statement, the Alliance of Tibetan Musicians said, “To honour the great sacrifices of the Tibetans inside Tibet and to express gratitude to the resilience of the living, the Alliance of Tibetan Musicians is organising a concert during the Kalachakra in Bodh Gaya.”

The concerts will be held for three days every evening from 31 December to 2 January near the Nyingma monastery. The concert will feature renowned Tibetan singer Tsering Gyurmey, Tenzin Gyalpo, Tenzin Woser, Choedak, Techung, and others.

A wave of self-immolations in Tibet has seen twelve Buddhist monks, nuns, or former monks setting themselves on fire to protest Beijing’s tight control of the region. Six of them have died from burns; two were nuns.

Spokesperson of the alliance Jhola Techung said that the self-immolations indicate that Tibetans are no longer able to tolerate the repressive Chinese policies.

The situation is critical and continues to be volatile, especially in eastern Tibet.

“Under such desperate circumstance, the exile Tibetans cannot remain inactive. Every effort must be made to highlight the desperate situation of the Tibetans living in Tibet, both to bring hope to them and to encourage the international community to interfere to end the miserable life that Tibetans are undergoing,” Techung said.

“The alliance deemed it important to act with their talents and passions to act and to speak up for the Tibetans inside Tibet.”

Music and singing bind the Tibetans together, and add hope to our determination that “We shall overcome, we shall overcome some day,” Techung added.
