DHARAMSHALA: A Tibetan monk from Kirti Monastery in Ngaba in northeastern Tibet set himself on fire to protest against the Chinese government, and his whereabouts and condition are unknown, reports coming out of Tibet say.
Lobsang Gyatso, age 19, set himself on fire in Ngaba town shouting slogans of protest against the Chinese government. Armed police came to extinguish the flame, and took him away while beating him.
Eyewitnesses say two Tibetan youths were severely beaten by security forces at time of the incident. One managed to get away with help from some onlookers, but the other bleeding profusely was led away by two policemen.
Armed police have been deployed along the main street in Ngaba and there is heavy restriction on movement of general public across the region.
Lobsang Gyatso is one of the best and brightest students in his class, and has given class presentations many times.
