Three monks from restive Ngaba held incommunicado in Chinese prison/ENG

DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 14: Information on three monks from the restive Ngaba region in occupied Tibet who were detained at separate times and have been held incommunicado have reached exile sources after months due to extreme choke on information channels and virtual lockdown of the region by the Chinese government.

Monks from the Dharamshala based Kirti monastery Kanyag Tsering and Lobsang Yeshi on Wednesday told the media that three monks in their 30’s from Ngaba were detained and held incommunicado since as early as the end of 2017 by Chinese authorities in occupied Tibet.

Lobsang Thamkhe, 37, from Ngaba Kirti monastery who was detained in 2018 on unknown charges was sentenced to four years in Chinese prison on July 30. His alleged crime and his current whereabouts as well as his health condition remains unknown.

Another Kirti monastery monk, Lobsang Dorjee, 36, who was detained sometime around August 2018 for unknown charges is yet to be sentenced. Dorjee had earlier served three years in prison back in 2011 for a protest he took part in. His current whereabouts and health condition remains unknown.

Also, 32 years old monk Thubpa from the Tutse monastery in Ngaba who was detained sometime at the end of 2017 continues to be held incommunicado. He is believed to have not been sentenced as his family has had no notification from the Chinese government. He had earlier served one and a half years in 2008 for burning a Chinese flag and protesting against Chinese rule. His current whereabouts and condition also remain unknown.

Kanyag Tsering who relayed the information to the media said that due to strict surveillance on all information channels including phone and internet, information that are months and years old can take time to reach outside occupied Tibet.
