Kumbum Monastery donates to Wuhan/ENG

DHARAMSHALA, 4 FEB: In an incident of charity across racial and political divide, a monastery in Tibet has donated large sum of money to the city of Wuhan, the epicenter the novel Coronavirus (nCoV-2019) which has claimed 425 lives as of Tuesday.

Kumbum Jampa Ling monastery in the traditional Tibetan region of Amdo in the so-called Qinghai province in occupied Tibet has donated 1,00,000 Yuan to the city of Wuhan in the light of the extensive spread of the virus. The donation has been made to purchase necessary items such as masks and goggles to affected people in the epicenter of the outbreak. The act of charity by the monastery has been lauded by the Chinese authorities and the public.

Similarly, in Amdo Rebkong, a collective of Yartsa Gunbu (Cordyceps Sinensis) harvesters have donated the highly prized commodity to the affected people in China. Also, Sera monastery in Lhasa has conducted prayers and collected donations for people who are suffering from this novel virus.

As of Jan 27, official media reports confirmed over 140 cases of nCoV-2019 outside of TAR in occupied Tibet’s Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan and Yunnan province. The China Tibet Broadcasting website reported 90 confirmed cases in Sichuan, 26 in Yunnan, 19 in Gansu, and 6 in Qinghai. Although the four patients in Gansu were reported to be critical, no death has been reported in Tibet yet.

As of today, there are now 20,438 people confirmed to have the infection with 425 reported deaths in mainland China. More than 150 cases have been reported in two dozen other countries, with the United States reporting the second case of human-to-human transmission on Monday.
