DHARAMSHALA, May 26: The Chinese state-run media have accused the US for being an ‘active provoker’ of Tibetan independence, saying that all reports of the human rights abuses in Tibet are ‘groundless’.

"The US is also an active provoker of Tibet independence. Given its huge ideological disparity from China, the White House has been attempting to sabotage the integrity of China for a long time,” an editorial in Global Timesread.

A report by Human Rights Watch (HRW) last week claimed that China’s ‘Stability Maintenance’ campaign had led to increased persecution and detention of Tibetans in the last three years from 2013 to 2015 during which 479 cases were reported.

Similar reports were also published by the Congressional Executive Commission on China (CECC), TCHRD and Freedom House, all pointing to increased cases of violation and worsening condition in Tibet.

However, the Chinese media claim that the western countries always hype about human rights conditions in Tibet, stating that the West is colluding with ‘Tibetan radicals’ to instigate Tibetan independence.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying during the 13th meeting of the China-Russia Energy Cooperation Committee on May 23, stated that she has no comment on the reports published by HRW. Hua questioned if they have ever visited Tibet or know the reality of Tibet.
