Kalon Tripa Address 6th World Parliamentarian Convention on Tibet/ENG

2012. ápriliss 28./CTA/TibetPress

OTTAWA: More than 45 Parliamentarians from 23 different Countries have attended the 6th World Parliamentarian Convention on Tibet which is underway in Ottawa, Canada from April 27 to April 29, 2012, jointly organized by the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, International Network of Parliamentarians on Tibet and Canada Parliamentarian Friends of Tibet.

The Convention began with a Panel Discussion of Inter-dependence between China and the World by Mr. Jayadeva Ranada, distinguished fellow with the Centre for Air Power Studies, New Delhi, Ms. Sharon Hom, Executive Director, Human Rights in China, New York, Mr. Carl Gershman, President of the National Endowment for Democracy, Washington DC which was chaired by long-time friend of Tibet and Chair of International Campaign for Tibet, Mr. Richard Gere.

It was followed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s address. His Holiness began by thanking all the Parliamentarian and expressed that the support for the Tibetan issue is not only in the interest of the Tibetan people but for the millions of Chinese people and South Asian people as well. His Holiness also spoke about the historic transfer of Political leadership to the democratic elected leadership who was born, raised and educated in exile.

Kalon Tripa Dr. Lobsang Sangay addressed the afternoon session by explaining about the Central Tibetan Administration being the legitimate representative of the Tibetan people, and said that the PRC’s perception that Tibetan issue will disappear when the His Holiness the Dalai Lama is no more will never succeed. Kalon Tripa called on to the International heads, organizations and communities to continue support the Tibetan issue, which has for decades invested in democracy and non-violence. He wished that the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and restoration of freedom in Tibet would be the best story of the 21st Century. Kalon Tripa also reported about the current desperate situation inside Tibet

Kalon Tripa also explained about Tibet being called and referred to as the 3rd pole which stores the largest reserve of ice and source of 10 rivers which flows down to South Asia, and any harm to the Tibetan environment is of gravely danger fnot only to the livelihood of millions of South Asian but also impacts negatively towards Global Warming.

He further explained that the Central Tibetan Administration believes in the Middle Way Policy which does not challenge Chinese Sovereignty and Territorial integrity. Since elected to head the Tibetan Administration in August 2011, Kalon Tripa told the gathering that he had reached out to Chinese for dialogue many times but could not succeed so far, but unfortunately Chinese have not stopped attacking His Holiness, and gone to the extent of referring His Holiness to Nazis, which is highly unfortunate and immoral.

Kalon Tripa hopes for the dialogue process to continue once the on-going Chinese Political transition is over. Whereas the Tibetans in Tibet are desperate and resorting to self immolations and number has gone up to 35 since 2009 and 25 have died. Self immolation is happening because the dialogue process is not continued, and Tibetans are not given space for protest of any unjust policies being undertaken in Tibet

Kalon Tripa also said that the Chinese have promised social paradise in Tibet, but for the last 60 plus years, there have been no socialism but colonization, and not paradise but repression, which can also be clearly gauged from the fact that the Self immolators in Tibet are under the age of 50, who were grown up under the Chinese political system, Chinese economic system and Chinese education system.

Kalon Tripa also clarified the stand of the CTA on self Immolation is that of as a human being, it does not want to see people dying and urge Tibetans from refrain from such drastic actions, and as a Buddhist, we offer prayers for deceased and their family members, and as a Tibetan, it is our sacred duty to share solidarity to keep alive their aspiration for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and restoration of freedom in Tibet.

Kalon Tripa told that he was happy to see many Parliaments around the World has passed resolution on Tibet, particularly about Italian Parliament, EU, US Senate, and more than 60 Parliamentarian from Japan has passed the declaration to move a resolution in Parliament, under the call of 2012 being International Lobby day in the statement of 53rd Tibetan National Uprising Anniversary.

Kalon Tripa will address the Tibetan community of Ottawa and nearby area on April 28, 2012 which will be followed by the address of His Holiness the Dalai Lama address.
