Kalachakra surplus donations go to charitable organisations/ENG

DHARAMSHALA, February 1: The organising committee of the 32nd Kalachakra formally released the financial statement of the ten-day teachings at a press conference held earlier today.

The organisers said that a total income of Rs 32,93,33,249.00 (Thirty two crores ninety three lakhs thirty three thousand two hundred and forty nine) was received through donations while the total expenditure incurred stood at Rs 25,78,33,249.00 (Twenty five crores seventy eight lakhs thirty three thousand two hundred and forty nine).

The surplus money amounting to Rs 7,15,00,000.00 (Seven crores fifteen lakhs), the organising committee said has been donated to Tibetan and Indian charitable organisations working in the fields of education, health and relief work.

Announcing the list of the registered charitable organisations which have benefited from the Kalachakra surplus donations, the organising committee said that a total amount of Rs 1,15,00,000.00 (One crore fifteen lakhs) has been donated to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Emergency Relief Fund. The relief fund conducts annual eye camps for underprivileged local residents, provides educational resources for Indian children living in the vicinity of Bodh Gaya, supports the ongoing renovation work at the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya, and encourages the protection of natural environment in Bodh Gaya.

Rs 1,00,00,000.00 (One crore) each has been allocated to the Tibetan Children Educational Welfare Fund, Central Tibetan Relief Committee, the Department of Religion and Culture, the Tibetan Voluntary Health Association, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and the Library of Tibetan Work and Archives.

Expressing their happiness at the “grand success” of the Kalachakra teachings, the organising committee credited the “special spiritual relationship” between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his devotees for the favourable outcome of the teachings.

"His Holiness acknowledged that the teachings went successfully and we are very happy that we could do so," Tulku, Thupten Yamphel, one of the organising committee members said.

The 32nd Kalchakra teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama was conducted at the holy site of Bodh Gaya from January 1-10.

According to the organisers, a total of 2,00,000 (two lakh) people attended the teachings, of whom more than 35,000 were from the monastic community, 9000 came from Tibet, 74,000 were from the Tibetan diaspora, 65,000 were from the Himalayan regions and 10,000 were foreigners from 66 different countries.
