DHARAMSHALA, NOV 30: The Himalayan Region Buddhist Association expressed their solidarity with the Tibetan people and His Holiness Dalai Lama regarding the special resolution passed by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) during the 14th Tibetan Religious Conference. At a press conference on Friday, the HRBA issued a statement regarding the issue of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s next reincarnation.

The Association represented monasteries of different sects across India and Nepal including Ladakh, Spiti, Nepal, Sikkim, Khunnu and Zangskar. All of the 15 representatives are Rinpoches of different monasteries along with representatives of their monasteries.

Jangchup Chonden Rinpoche, President of the Association, said that since their association with the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Buddhist tradition remains strong, the question of the reincarnation also becomes an important issue for the monasteries sharing similar Buddhist beliefs.

The association reasserted their willingness in the “continuation of the Dalai Lama institution” for a better future. They expressed their desire as a people and entrusted His Holiness with the decision-making process of his next reincarnation. The Association showed deep gratitude for the Tibetan spiritual leader since they come from the poorest of regions in India but have thrived because of the Buddhist traditions of different sects across the country. They have promised to work towards the preservation of Tibetan Buddhism in India whereby they can also get support from the Indian government if needed. The Association entrusts the idea of democracy in India and believes the country will cooperate because of the historical ties between India and Tibet.

The association stated that if the government of China remains bent upon its policies on the Tibetan leader’s next reincarnation, they will “unanimously reject the candidate appointed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)”. The monasteries and the Buddhists from the region will not appreciate any kind of influence from China on this critical issue. The association added that all the representative of the monasteries from different regions “fully support” any decision made by His Holiness and the Tibetan people.
