DHARAMSHALA, APR. 4: The Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama who was to board a helicopter this morning to Tawang had to take a detour to Bomdila owing to bad weather in the region.

The beginning of his trip to the Indian border state of Arunachal Pradesh was marred temporarily by an unlikely hindrance; the flurry of northerly wind that brought with it pre-monsoon rain and cloud formation over the North eastern India. According to weather forecast reports, this spell of rainfall is due to the cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and nearby areas. Subsequently, the entire northeast region of India will be affected by the weather system.

The weather has compelled the organizers of the Tibetan leader’s visit to make changes in the Nobel laureate’s programme. His Holiness reached Tenzingang Tibetan settlement in Bomdila flanked by Arunachal Pradesh police and ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) this afternoon covering over 300 km through a rough and snowy terrain from Guwahati. The 81 year old Tibetan leader will give a teaching and confer a White Tara Long Life Empowerment in the morning at the Buddha Park on Wednesday.

The website of the Dalai Lama’s private office stated that two days later, the octogenarian leader will travel further north to Dirang and give teachings at Thupsung Dhargyeling Monastery on April 6. He will begin his teachings in Tawang from April 8, where followers have been eagerly waiting to receive him since this morning. The Tibetan leader will teach Kamalashila's The Middling States of Meditation & Gyalsey Thokme Sangpo's Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva at Yiga Choezin. On April 10 morning, His Holiness will confer the Rinzin Dhondup Initiation at Yiga Choezin.

Reports also suggest that many followers from neighboring Bhutan have also flocked to Tawang to see and hear the teachings from the Buddhist spiritual leader.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home affairs Kiren Rijiju has asked China to not interfere in India’s internal matters and retrain from creating “artificial controversy” during the Dalai Lama’s visit. "India never interferes in the internal affairs of China. We expect that China should not interfere in our internal matters either," Rijiju said while adding that India respects the ‘One China Policy’. ”Arunachal Pradesh is not a disputed territory. People of Arunachal Pradesh are peace loving Indians who desire to have friendly relations,” tweeted Rijiju.

The Dalai Lama last visited Tawang region in 2009. His current visit was touted as being a political hash by Beijing which regards him as a “separatist” although he enjoys support and admiration for his advocacy for peace and global harmony even amongst Chinese from the mainland. The Tibetan leader has maintained that he is not seeking independence from China and is willing for “genuine autonomy” within the framework of the Chinese constitution.
