Dalai Lama condoles victims of Bihar and Assam flooding/ENG

DHARAMSHALA, September 4: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has expressed his condolences and sadness over the loss of life and properties due to massive flooding in Bihar and Assam.

In his letters to the Chief Ministers of both the states, Nitish Kumar and Sarbananda Sonowal, the Tibetan spiritual leader has said, “I offer my condolences to those families that have lost loved ones as well as my sympathy for everyone affected by the flooding.”

The Nobel Peace Laureate in his letters lauded both the administration for al the rescue works and relief efforts to help those affected by the flooding due to excessive monsoon rainfall in the region.

As a mark of his sympathy for the people of the two states, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has pledged a donation from the Gaden Phodrang Trust of the Dalai Lama towards the relief and rescue efforts.

The flooding has reportedly claimed nearly 300 lives, 153 in Bihar and 144 in Assam, and over a crore affected and left stranded. Moreover, it has also claimed over 140 animals in the Kaziranga National Park including 7 rhinos, 122 swamp deer and 2 elephants.

In terms of monetary loss, it has damaged lakhs of hectares of crops and has also resulted in the Indian Railways incurring a loss of Rs. 150 crore in the flood-affected states.
