DHARAMSHALA, May 17: His Holiness the Dalai Lama reiterated his confidence to live around the age of 110 at a long life prayer offering to him from the people of the three provinces of Tibet and Tibetan spiritual traditions.

The Tibetan leader also thanked all his followers and wellwishers across the world for praying for him during his illness recently.

The offering today at Tsuglakhang, the Dalai Lama temple, organized by Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) was attended by heads of all major Tibetan religious sects, exile leadership and devotees amounting to an estimated 7500 members.

Along with assorted prayers, a supplication was recited by the offering conductor, Sakya Trizin, to His Holiness to live long, mentioning how the Tibetan leader has been inconceivably kind to the Tibetans and people all over the world.

His Holiness said it is the determination of the Tibetan people inside Tibet mostly and some contribution he was able to make in the last 60 years for the preservation of Tibetan Buddhism and culture that we have retained our identity in this world.

Commenting on the state of humanity, he said the news these days is rife with instances of people creating so much trouble and being bent on destroying each other. He urged everyone to not be limited by narrow thoughts and jealousy but to be kind and altruistic.

“So the longer I live, the more I could help,” said His Holiness and added that he hopes to live 10-15 years more than Gendun Drupa, (First Dalai Lama) who passed away at 84.

His Holiness then shared with the gathering a recent dream he had that delighted everyone.

He said he recently dreamt of crossing a river by swimming with Palden Lhamo (one of the two principal protector deities of Tibet) on his back telling him ‘there is no doubt that you will live to be 110.”

With this, His Holiness said the heartfelt invocation today encourages him and by taking care of his health, he is confident that he will live to be 110 and more.
