Dalai Lama expresses wish to visit Wu Tai Shan pilgrimage site in China/ENG

DHARAMSHALA, Jan. 24: Tibetan exiled leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Tuesday told a congregation in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, primarily of Chinese devotees that he wished to travel to the holy Buddhist pilgrimage site in China - Wu Tai Shan.

The Dalai Lama yesterday said that he wished to travel to Wu Tai Shan Mountain in China’s Shanxi Province where there are prominent Buddhist structures such as the Sarira stupa and Xiangtong temple among others. The Dalai Lama said, “I pray that one day I may visit Wu Tai Shan to receive Manjushri’s blessings—and you can pray for that too.”

“China has a special connection with Manjushri, and Wu Tai Shan—the Five Peaked Mountain is the sacred place associated with him. If you Chinese can do the practices of these two, Manjushri and Sarasvati, it will be of special benefit to you,” he further said.

The octogenarian Tibetan leader gave the two-day ‘Diamond Cutter Sutra’ teachings on the request of Chinese devotees, many of whom had travelled from mainland China.

The Dalai Lama’s wish to travel to the particular Buddhist site in China is not new. He was reported to have expressed his wish to visit the same site for a religious pilgrimage in the late 1990s.

The Tibetan leader has completed his teaching schedule in Bodh Gaya yesterday despite hiccups including a bomb scare on Jan. 19 and bouts of exhaustion due to his hectic itinerary. The last engagement for the 82 year old will be a public talk on ‘Education for Universal Ethics in Schools and Colleges’ to students from private and government schools at the Kalachakra teaching grounds organized by groups including the Alice Project on Jan. 25.
