DHARAMSHALA, October 17: The Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Monday launched the Universal Ethics Curriculum for Indian schools prepared by Ayur Gyan Nyas at DAV Central Public School in Meerut.

Remembering Late Kulbhushan Bakshi, under whose leadership the Trust was founded, the Tibetan leader applauded Ayur Gyan Nyas for continuing with his vision.

The Tibetan spiritual leader has been advocating inclusion of secular ethics as part of the curriculum in schools without touching any religious faith.

“We need to think about entire seven billion human beings’ peace of mind. In education, if we rely on religious belief then it will not be universal,” the Dalai Lama said, “Now in education we must include education on warmheartedness not based on religion but based on our common experience, common sense and scientific reasoning.”

The Nobel Peace Laureate also reminded that the Indian tradition of over 3000 years dealing with emotions must be used, irrespective of believer or non-believer, as a method to keep a healthy mind and hygiene of emotion.

Founded with a vision to use science to enrich the inner values of students in hope of making the coming generation more compassionate, caring, kind and free of negative emotions, Ayur Gyan Nyas aims to inculcate ethical values in the school curriculum of Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary schools.

The Universal Ethics Curriculum launched today will be carried out in nine Indian schools as a pilot project in DAV Centenary Public School (Meerut), SLS DAV Public School (Delhi), Shri Ram Public School (Meerut), Lion’s Bal Vidha Mandhir (Pilibhit), KDB Public School (Ghaziabad), Little Angel School (Pilibhit), New Era Public School (Jhansi), RNS World School (Jhansi) and Archie’s School (Kanpur).

The Tibetan leader arrived in Manipur earlier today on the invitation of the speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
