DHARAMSHALA, May 10: The Tibetan Spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama today said he was confident that the Tibet issue will be resolved through nonviolent means and sense of brotherhood though it may take time. The Tibetan leader was speaking today at an official felicitation ceremony organized by the Central Tibetan Administration today for the visiting bipartisan US congressional delegation headed by House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi.

The Tibetan leader thanked the delegation for their support, which he said was based on the spirit of truth and justice.

The Tibetan leader said that the non violent path chosen by the Tibetans is the reason for people supporting the Tibetan cause.

“People support Tibet not because of any affiliation but they support truth and justice”, said the Tibetan leader.

“We must not consider China as our enemy but friend and the dire situation in Tibet is a problem for both Tibet and China, and must be addressed. Use of force only leads to distrust and fear, which eventually leads to discord and without harmony the problem can’t be addressed,” said the Dalai Lama at the gathering attended by hundreds of Tibetans and supporters waving the Tibetan and US national flags.

The delegation extended their support for the Tibetan struggle through Middle Way Approach and appealed to Beijing to respect the basic human rights of Tibetans inside Tibet.

“We recognize that China uses it economic leverage to silence the voices of friends of Tibet. If we don’t not speak out against on oppression in Tibet and rest of China due to its economic power we lose all the rights to speak on human rights,” said Pelosi.

Thanking the US government for its continuous financial support and also their continuous support for Middle Way Approach (MWA), President of CTA Dr. Lobsang Sangay said, “The US government supports One-China policy and also supports Middle Way Approach. So there is no contradiction between the One-China policy and Middle way policy. We hope that the new administration in Washington DC will continue to support MWA and encourage dialogue between envoys of the Dalai Lama and Chinese representatives very soon.”

In Nov, 2015, House Minority leader Pelosi also led a US Congressional delegation in a rare access into Tibet where representatives Jim McGovern, Betty McCollum and Joyce Beatty were also present.

Earlier in 2008, the 77-year-old US lawmaker, who is a big critic of China’s human rights abuse in Tibet and a great supporter of the exiled Tibetan leader, last visited Dharamshala with nine congressmen.
