DHARAMSHALA, March 20: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama left for New Delhi today from his exile home of Dharamshala.

The Dalai Lama is scheduled to address students and faculty of the Delhi University and give public talks in the Indian capital.

The 76-year old Tibetan leader, who was awarded the title of "adjunct honorary professor" by the Delhi University in 2009, is scheduled to give a talk on ‘Ethics: Educating the mind and heart’ as part of the University lecture series.

The talk will be held at the Delhi University’s Convention Hall, Vice Regal Lodge on March 22 at around 2 pm.

Live webcast of the event will be made available on the official website of the private office of the Dalai Lama.

After the Delhi University lecture, the Dalai Lama is scheduled to give a three-day public talk in the capital.

Chimme Rinzin Choekyapa, secretary of the Dalai Lama told Phayul that His Holiness will return to Dharamshala following the public talks.

This is the Dalai Lama’s first out station trip since he returned back to his exile home on January 31 after undergoing a successful removal of a cataract from his left eye in a hospital in New Delhi.

Upon his arrival in New Delhi today, the Dalai Lama visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences for an eye check-up. Reports suggest that he is scheduled for another cataract surgery in July.

“It was a customary check up a couple of months after the surgery. He underwent a thorough eye check-up, with vision testing, intraocular pressure checking among other tests. He is seeing very well with his operated eye,” Dr JS Titiyal, who had led the team of operating eye surgeons at the hospital’s Rajendra Prasad Eye centre, told reporters.

According to his official website, His Holiness is scheduled to give a teaching as well as confer a long life empowerment (Tsewang) on April 2 at Rewalsar (Tso Pema) in Himachal Pradesh.

From April 4 to 6, the Dalai Lama is scheduled to confer the Kagyae Initiation at Khamtrul Rinpoche’s monastery, Chime Gatsal Ling in Sidhbari near Dharamshala. The initiation will be followed by a long life offering ceremony for His Holiness.
