DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 2: The exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness’s proposed trip to Sikkim in Northeast India has been cancelled following the advice of physicians who urged the octogenarian leader to rest and not engage in strenuous activities. The Dalai Lama was supposed to visit the Himalayan state from March 20 to March 29.

In an official correspondence from the Dalai Lama’s private office, it stated that the Tibetan leader who has returned to Dharamshala from a one-and-half month trip to south India and Bodh Gaya has been experiencing exhaustion. Although his general health has been excellent, the Dalai Lama has been advised to rest.

“Physicians has recommended that His Holiness cut down on his travels and not to exert himself. Unfortunately, we have therefore decided to cancel the visit to Sikkim,” Secretary Tenzin Taklha wrote to the Secretary of the Ecclesiastical Dept. of the government of Sikkim, Samten Dolma on Thursday.

In similar incidents, Tibetan leader cancelled his visit to Botswana and Japan due to exhaustion in August and October 2017 respectively.
