DHARAMSHALA, April 6: The Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, currently touring Arunachal Pradesh, has said his visit to the region is ‘purely spiritual and nothing political’, adding that China should send its official to see his activities.

“I wish and want a Chinese official to visit here and observe what my activities are, which are 100 percent non-political,” the Dalai Lama told reporters in Dirang.

In his response to a question about his return to Tibet, the Tibetan leader said that many Chinese Buddhists and Tibetans in Tibet want him to return. He added that as soon as the Chinese government shows some positive indications, he is ready to go back.

His Holiness lightheartedly said, “In the present circumstances, if I go there, I think at the airport I will be chained.”

The Tibetan spiritual leader said that he suggested Indian officials to have a Haj-like arrangement for Chinese Buddhists, numbering around 400 million, to travel to India. “Firstly, individuals will be satisfied and secondly they will get to see the freedom and enjoy the freedom of speech, which is very nice. Despite few draw back, I think India is the most stable and most populated democratic country,” the Dalai Lama said.

The Nobel peace laureate also said that 1.3 billion Chinese people have every right to know the reality and once they come to know what the reality is, they will be able to judge the right from wrong.

“The censorship of media is morally wrong and harmful. Chinese judiciary should also be raised up to the international level because I have met numerous Chinese peasants who are very poor. The local authorities instead of paying attention to the living standard of the farmers, their only concern is making money for themselves," he said.
