DHARAMSHALA, June 5: The exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Monday told a group of Tibetan youngsters that being a Tibetan is a matter of pride. “We Tibetans deserve to take pride in ourselves,” the Tibetan leader was seen saying to a group of Tibetan youth that has come for an audience with him at his residence here in McLeod Ganj.

The Tibetan leader, who was speaking to a group of 15 Tibetan volunteers from the Tibet Corps under the Central Tibetan Administration, said that only Tibetan language has the potential to clearly explain and dissect the ancient Nalanda tradition teachings. “Historically the Nalanda University was the education hub of erudite scholars and today, the complete explanation of that tradition can be found only in the Tibetan language. We have an incredibly rich literature in human psychology and logic.,” His Holiness said.

The group of youth that is working under various capacities as volunteers under the exile Tibetan government was lauded for their efforts and advised to reaffirm their roots as being a Tibetan as well as a significant member of the international community. “It is remarkable that all of you are serving voluntarily. It represents your love and loyalty for Tibet,” His Holiness said.

During his short audience, the Dalai Lama said that the exile Tibetan government serves as the custodians of the endangered Tibetan culture and tradition. “As long as the exile Tibetan Administration is running efficiently, we will be able to preserve our rich culture and traditional knowledge. Otherwise, it will be difficult,” he said.

The Tibetan leader who is soon to turn 83, many say is experiencing peak health conditions with his public engagement drastically increased within the last few weeks. The Tibetan leader was earlier advised by his physicians to limit overseas travel citing exhaustion on long flights.
