DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 5: The exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration on Thursday announced that it will be postponing an upcoming event indefinitely and advised caution during the March 10-Tibetan Uprising Day commemorations, in light of the rising COVID-19 cases in India.

The Information Secretary of the Department of Information and International Relation Tsewang Gyalpo Arya today during a press briefing said that the maiden ‘5/50 Forum: Global Summit of International Tibetan Associations’ is postponed indefinitely due to the outbreak of the COVID-19. The Department of Finance, CTA was to jointly organise the event with the Information and international relations wing of the CTA from April 2-4.

He added that the third edition of the 5/50 Youth Forum scheduled to be held in August will go ahead as planned and that necessary changes to the program could be made keeping in consideration the level of outbreak of COVID-19, later in the months.

The Secretary further said that the March 10- Tibetan Uprising commemoration due to happen in four days’ time on Tuesday should be commemorated with the advisory on COVID-19 issued by local and central governments, in mind. Local Tibetan associations should exercise utmost caution while organising the event where hundreds of exile Tibetans traditionally undertake mass protest against China, Arya said.

The official function at the Tsuglakhang temple courtyard on March 10 will proceed as planned, authorities said.
