New Delhi: His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced the conclusion of a five-day eredeti cikkdialogue between Russian and Tibetan Buddhist Scholars on 8 August 2017 at Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi.

Viktoria G. Lysenko from the Institute of Philosophy, Moscow, gave a presentation on “What kind of Philosophy can be a bridge between Science and Buddhism?” before His Holiness’ concluding remarks.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama in his concluding remarks urged Russian scientists to participate in future dialogue and conferences on Buddhism and science between western scholars and Tibetan Buddhist scholars. “Russian scholars have an immense knowledge of science. They should not distance themselves from other renowned scientists from the west and should participate in the future. we could learn a lot from each other,” His Holiness said.

“It is not good to differentiate based on cultural boundaries like Western and Asian. We must indulge in a feeling of oneness, which is one of my first commitment : the promotion of human values,” His Holiness noted.

His Holiness further enlightened the scientists and observers about Buddha’s scientific nature based on his sermons in which he has called for analysis and experimentation rather than blind faith.

His Holiness applauded the organisers for their noble objectives of creating harmonious societies and called for more such dialogues in the future to exchange ideas and have a thorough understanding of Buddhist philosophy to have fruitful consequences.

His Holiness further spoke about the importance of preserving the rich Tibetan language as most of the sacred texts of the Sanskrit tradition is preserved only in the Tibetan language. “It is only in the Tibetan language that the rich Buddhist culture from Nalanda University has retained its purity and quality. Therefore, if you want to study the Nalanda tradition of Buddhism, you should study Tibetan language,” His Holiness said.
