DHARAMSHALA, May 23: At the first high-level management committee meeting of school system held today at Conference Hall of Department of Education (DoE) of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), DoE Secretary Karma Singhe said the merging of TCV schools in Ladakh is underway while Sambhota school administration is laying out plans for the same.

Following the seventh Tibetan General Conference on Education in February this year and the series of other meetings at the management level, the meeting today sought to discuss effective ways of improving students’ education and enhancing the efficiency of Tibetan school’s administration.

Education Kalon Pema Yangchen, the Vice Chairman of the committee inaugurated the meeting.

Yangchen said despite the declining number of Tibetan students enrolling in the Tibetan schools, it is necessary to impart quality education, one that meets the need of the time and promotes a holistic learning and growth, a thought expressed by Geshe Lhakdor, the chairman of Education Council at the 7th Education Council and Advisory Committee meeting held a month ago.

The meeting today was also attended by President of TCV school Thupten Dorjee, Director of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society Namgyal Yarphel, General Secretary of Tibetan Homes School (THS) Mussoorie, TCV Education Director Sonam Sichoe.

The key agendas discussed today were the merging of schools, implementing maternity and paternity leave for staff, facilitating the education of Tibetans abroad in Tibetan schools in place, deliberating on the admission of Himalayan region students in Tibetan schools, improving the overall quality of education in boarding schools and in community in general, and deliberating over respective school’s responsibility in addressing sexual assault cases.
