DHARAMSHALA, MAY 6: A Tibetan doctor and monk from the Mura Monastery hospital was detained for the second time by Chinese police in Machu County in the Tibetan province of Amdo, earlier on Feb, 27, rights group Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy revealed.

TCHRD cited a source who said that Khedup, 50, was accused of “posting teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on social media, also writing blog posts to express solidarity with the displaced monks and nuns from Larung Gar, religious freedom, and cultural rights. He is also held responsible for posting similar writings authored by other Tibetans”.

The senior Tibetan monk who is also the head of the Mura Monastery hospital was detained by the County Public Security Bureau (PSB) when he was called to collect his personal belongings confiscated during his first arrest.

The authorities have yet to give any information on Khedup’s condition and whereabouts after over two months of detention. The news of his detention arriving in exile late is understood to be the intense restriction on communication in the region by authorities.

Dharamshala based TCHRD also said that Khedup was detained for the first time earlier in December 2016 by the county United Front Work Department (UFWD), the Communist Party agency that is especially charged to look after Tibetan affairs. He was released on January 21, 2017 only to be detained again over a month later.

The skilled veterinary doctor had been on the radar of the Chinese authorities ever since he came back from India and Nepal where he visited twice in 2012 and 2014 for pilgrimage.
