DHARAMSHALA, FEB 1: China expressed strong condemnation over the Tibet Policy Support Act (TPSA) passed by the US House with majority. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said that the “Tibet Policy Support Act 2019” violated the norms governing international relations; interfered in China’s “internal affairs” and that it sent a severely wrong signal to the “separatist forces” of Tibetan independence.

“China expresses strong indignation over and firm opposition to this,” Hua said on Wednesday. “Tibetan affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and allow no foreign interference”, she further said. The news portal claims that over the past 60 years, Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) has made “historic progress in economic, social, cultural and ecological fields.”

“In recent years, the international community has become more and more aware of the real situation in Tibet and increasingly understand and support China’s Tibet-related policies,” the spokesperson added. “The Tibet-related issue is not an ethnic or religious issue, nor is it a human rights issue, but a major principle issue concerning China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Hua said.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson urged the United States to take into consideration the development Tibet has witnessed and correct its mistake in using Tibet-related issues to interfere in China’s internal issues in order to generate “mutual trust and cooperation”. The official indignation by the Chinese government has been rampant whenever the US government has passed bills against matters concerning places like Tibet, Uyghur and Hong Kong.

The US House of Representatives passed the Tibet Policy Support Act (TPSA) 2019 with an overwhelming majority of 392-22 votes on Tuesday. The Act is a revised bill from Tibet Policy Act in 2002 which ensures the new inclusions about environmental issues, religious freedom and reincarnation, CTA and democratization, and the funding for the Tibetans inside and outside Tibet.
