China has said that the only way to end the Doklam standoff was for India to unconditionally withdraw troops from the area, a day after home minister Rajnath Singh expressed hope that China would soon take a positive step.

China reiterated its accusation that Indian troops ‘illegally crossed the boundary’. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying called India’s reasons to stop Chinese road building in Dokalam area as ‘ridiculous’.

In a statement to the media on Tuesday, Hua said: “The only prerequisite and condition of this incident is unconditional withdrawal of the Indian troops .” Hua criticised India saying New Delhi’s move at Dokalam has a negative impact in the eyes of the Chinese. India should match its words with deeds, Hua said, while calling for unconditional withdrawal of troops and equipment.

He said there will be “utter chaos” if its troops entered India on the pretext that Indian border infrastructure posed a threat to Beijing. She claimed that China would in no way allow any country or individual to infringe upon its territorial sovereignty.
