DHARAMSHALA, Sept. 14: A two-year-old Tibetan boy died after a car hit him on Monday night on Adams County, Colorado, in the United States. The hit and run case happened around 7:40 p.m. at Lipan Street just outside the home of the Tibetan family.

Tenzin Chokzin who was flown to St. Anthony North Health Campus was pronounced dead upon arrival, Colorado State Police said.

The toddler had apparently followed his grandmother who went for a walk while his mother was preparing a bath for him. Neighbor of the Tibetan family told local media that she had heard a loud noise and a white car that stopped for a while and continued driving after the incident.

The bereaved family released a statement on Tuesday that expressed their heartbreak saying they will not be pressing charges. The development has since garnered sympathy and awe from the public.

The boy’s father Kunchok Tenzin and mother Tashi Dolma wrote that they forgive the person responsible. "My youngest son Tenzin Chokzin, our dearest one is my best friend and as this loss is unbearable, it gives us an opportunity to practice compassion and understand that we are only here for a moment," the statement read.

“As a Buddhist family, we forgive the person responsible for our great loss. Please keep our young son in your prayers. Finally, I urge all to be careful when driving,” the letter further read.

Local police later said that the driver turned himself in after he heard the news reports on the incident. The man identified as 67-year-old George Currie is reported to be cooperating with the authorities.
