DHARAMSHALA, Mar. 6: Two Tibetan women, founders of a non-profit organization Machik, have been included into the prestigious Harvard Law International Women’s Day, 2018 honouree list for their contribution to social innovation and education in occupied Tibet.

Siblings Lobsang and Tashi Rabgey who founded the US based Machik are among the 25 women chosen for the 5th Annual Harvard Law International Women’s Day Portrait Exhibit which showcases the astounding contributions of women around the world. Fellow honourees include Nobel peace prize winner Shirin Ebadi among others.

Losang Rabgey has been recognized by the National Geographic Society for her work promoting gender equality and bridging cultural divides for numerous projects inside Tibet in the field of education and social change.

Her sister Tashi Rabgey, a Research Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Tibet Governance Project at George Washington University, has been recognised for her work in educational development and capacity building for Tibetans in Tibet.

Machik was founded in 2002 and is dedicated to develop new opportunities for education, capacity building and innovation in Tibet. Since its inception, the NGO has worked around building quality schools, facilitating clean drinking water, healthcare, welfare for the poor and elderly and rebuilding homes through their projects such as the Chungba Project, Summer Enrichment Programs, Women's Initiative, Youth Leadership, Social Entrepreneurship, and Governance.
