DHARAMSHALA: The Indo-Tibetan Friendship Association (ITFA), Dharamshala announced at a press conference today that the 21st International Himalayan Festival would be held from 10-11 December at Hotel Bhagsu, Mcleod Ganj.

The conference was presided by Tibetan Parliamentarian Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, ITFA Founding President Shri Ram Swaroop, Tibetan settlement officer Mr. Sonam Dorjee and former Tibetan Parliamentarian Mr. Younten Gyatso.

Shri. Sudhir Sharma, Minister of Housing, Urban Development and Town & Country Planning in the Government of Himachal Pradesh, and Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay will jointly inaugurate the two-day event as the chief guest and special guest respectively. Other dignitaries who will attend the festival include Mr. Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament and the Divisional Commissioner of Kangra.

This year’s festival include cultural dance troupes and exhibitions from various places in Himachal Pradesh including Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, etc. The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), the premier institute of Tibetan dance, arts and theater, will also showcase performances at the festival.

The festival was started in 1995 to commemorate the international recognition of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s peace initiatives with the prestigious Nobel Prize for peace on 10 December 1989. It is aimed at bringing different cultures and people across the Himalayas on a common forum, and foster understanding, appreciation, exchanges and dialogue among the people of the region.
