Free Tibet has received further information of the events in Lhasa yesterday 27 May and pictures of Dorjee Tseten (1), one of the two Tibetans who set themselves on fire in the Tibetan capital and who, according to Chinese state media, died.

According to one source, the two men hired a room in Taksham Hotel beside the temple at around 1pm (local time) yesterday afternoon and prepared there. At around 2.15pm they walked out of the hotel towards the temple and made a traditional victory call before setting themselves on fire.

Dorjee Tseten was 19 years old and a lay person from Bhora Township, Sangchu county, Kanlho Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Eastern Tibet (2). He had been working in Lhasa for some time but had recently been home to Bhora; scene of a large protest in March where people called for freedom in Tibet (3).

A few hours after the self-immolations, the owner and some staff at the restaurant where the two men worked were arrested.

Locals from Dorjee’s home town have reported that Public Security Bureau and Paramilitary Armed Police personnel are questioning people in Bhora about him.
