23. His Holiness sends congratulatory letter to the nobel peace prize winner of year 2005

TibetNet - Tuesday, October 11, 2005

His Holiness the Dalai Lama sent a congratulatory letter to Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei and his International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for being awarded the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei is the Director General of IAEA based in Austria. In his message to Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, His Holiness said " I want to congratulate you and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on your being awarded the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize not only because I am a Nobel Peace Laureate but also because of my firm belief in the importance of the work that you and the IAEA carry out in the course of your duties." The text message of His Holiness says that he does not believe in the concept of resolving problems through war and violence. He also mentioned that the concept of 'we' and 'they' are outdated in today's extremely inter-connected world and we need to view the world as one family. "I therefore strongly believe that the proper way to resolve our problems is through dialogue and not violence and I envision a world that will first abolish all offensive weapons and gradually and eventually become fully demilitarized". "I do realize that this cannot be achieved overnight, but in the long run this is our best hope for a world with peace and non-violence", His Holiness said.
