Romania: Continuing with their visit to the Transylvanian region of Romania, Representative Tashi Phuntsok and EU Advocacy Rigzin Choedon Genkhang, hosted and escorted by MEP Csaba Sogor, once again participated in the opening of another exhibition entitled Ways of Wisdom on His Holiness the Dalai Lama at Covasna county’s Tourist information office.

The Mayor of the County Gyeri Jozsef welcomed the guests. Mr Csaba Sogor addressed the gathering and informed the importance of the exhibition, which was in Hungarian language. He also explained in-detail the situation of Tibet, about his experience of meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his visits to Tibetan establishments in India. He applauded the Tibetans’ successful and impressive administration.

The Representative informed the gathering on the enormous legacy of Korosi Csoma Sandor, as known in Hungarian tradition, on Tibetan language and Buddhism. He also recalled the impressive contribution of Mr Csaba Sogor for Tibet in the European Parliament and that the Tibetan delegation was grateful for their representative in the European Parliament.

The delegation joined the congregation at the ceremonial worship at the Reformed Church, Koros, birthplace of Korosi Csoma Sandor. The Bishop of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Romania and protestant pastor of the Parish preached and addressed the congregation.

In his address, Representative Tashi Phuntsok reflected on the hard, strenuous but very impressive life of Korosi Csoma Sandor in the Himalayan region for 22 years. Quoting him, “My honor is dearer to me than the making, as they say, of my fortune,” the Representative outlined the hermitic but dignified pursuit of his literary and Buddhist research and finally his demise in Darjeeling in 1842.

Speaking on Sandor’s lifelong dream to reach Lhasa for higher learning and research on Tibetology which were unfulfilled, the Representative called upon the gathering to fulfill his dream by supporting Tibetans in the current tragic situation. He also appealed to the congregation to remember the Tibetans in Tibet in their prayers.

Later in front of the statue of Korosi Csoma Sandor outside the church, a long and impressive festive program and wreath laying ceremony took place. All dignitaries of the region, representatives from Hungarian Embassy and Consulate of the region, MPs and local people and children came out to make the ceremony solemn and festive.
